BlackBerry: On The road to extinction?

The first Blackberry device — an email pager — was available in the market in 1999. BBM was introduced in 2006, and by 2012, BB had sold 200 million phones, with its current figure of users placed at about 80 million. Six years down the line, a lot has changed. BBM now has to compete with several other substitutes for it — Whatsapp, Facebook chat, Google Chat, Viber chat and a number of other chat platforms.
Mobile network providers have been the major loser in terms of revenues from SMS. BB Limited is the latest hit. Whatsapp, BBM’s arch rival, claims a figure of about 200 million users currently, a far one from BBM’s.
Google is rumoured to be interested in acquiring Whatsapp, especially since it ranks as the second most downloaded app on Google Play. As BBM continues to struggle for a market share, this move may be a potent one in an attempt for a comeback. What is not clear is how this would affect the sales of Blackberry phones.

The struggle for relevance and market share among mobile platform providers continues. Samsung and Apple are holding on to major market share and Techno is also making a stealthy incursion into the market as well, but if things go south, it may mean that the only place where Blackberry phones would remain popular is the technology museum. Already, 40 per cent of the company’s staff are expected to be dismissed before 2014. If this move falters, then may be the figure would be higher than this and would mean that BB is on a slow path to extinction.

Porsche 911 Turbo & Turbo S Cabrios Revealed

One of the fastest and most useable supercars in the world is now available without a roof. Say hello to the new Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S.
The new models use the same 3.8-litre flat six, developing 514bhp in the 911 Turbo cabriolet and 553bhp in the 911 Turbo S cabriolet. That's 30bhp more than the previous generation of scalped Turbos and leads to a 0-60mph time 0.4 quicker than their predecessors – 3.3 seconds for the Turbo and 3.1 seconds for the Turbo S – too.
Porsche has designed the fabric roof with a lightweight magnesium frame so it maintains the same curve to produce the same silhouette as the coupe.
It'll take around 13 seconds to close the lid and one can do it up to a speed of 31mph.

Linksys releases faster speeds and better signal coverage router

he biggest difference between this the router you’re likely using now is that it supports the new 802.11ac wireless standard. In a nutshell, what you’re getting is an evolution of 802.11n that brings faster speeds and better signal coverage. But the EA6900 doesn’t stop there.
It also has the newest revision of chipsets for 802.11n, using a newer 256 QAM modulation chip that allows for a maximum of 600 Mbps throughput. Of course the 600 Mbps for 802.11n and 1900 Mbps for 802.11ac after maximum theoretical bandwidth values, but they’re still wicked fast and probably a lot faster than what you’re working with now

Microsoft engulf Nokia's phone business for $7.2 billion

Microsoft Corp  buys Nokia's phone business and license its patents for 5.44 billion euros ($7.2 billion), a bold foray into mobile devices that also brings potential chief executive contender Stephen Elop back into the fold.

Two years after hitching its fate to Microsoft's Windows Phone software, the Finnish phone maker that once dominated the global market collapsed into the arms of the U.S. software giant, its mobile business ravaged by nimbler rivals Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics.

Shares in Microsoft slid as much as 6 percent in the afternoon, lopping more than $15 billion off the company's market value, as investors protested the acquisition of an underperforming and marginalized corporation that lost more than $4 billion in 2012.
